Quality and responsibility
Alternativa
Three ISO standards for the way the company works, a European standard and the CE marking for what leaves the hall. All of them are issued and checked by somebody outside — which is why they count.
These are not documents about the same thing
ISO 9001 · 14001 · 45001
They speak to how the work is done: whether procedures exist, whether what matters is measured, what happens when something goes wrong. They do not refer to any particular panel but to the house that makes it.
EN 14509 · CE
They say what a particular product can do: how much it carries, how well it insulates, how it behaves in a fire. The figures are measured to the standard and set out in the Declaration of Performance that goes with the delivery.
Five documents, one by one
Management system
ISO 9001:2015 — Quality management
It does not claim that a panel is good — it claims that a system exists to keep that under control: who does what, what is measured, what happens when something falls outside tolerance and how a complaint is closed. At Alternativa it has been in place since 2005, longer than any other standard.
- Applies to
- the whole company and every plant
- In place since
- 2005
ISO 14001:2015 — Environmental management
It requires records of waste and emissions, a plan for what is done with them, and evidence that the plan is followed. That is why the solar plant on the hall roof and the filters on the furnace are not a statement of good intentions but items that someone from outside comes to check.
- Covers
- waste, emissions and consumption in production

ISO 45001:2018 — Occupational health and safety
A system for preventing injuries: a risk assessment for every workplace, training, protective equipment and an investigation of every incident — including the one that passed without consequence. On lines running three shifts, that is the difference between a rule and a piece of paper.
- Applies to
- every workplace in the plants
- Requires
- risk assessment and investigation of incidents
Product
EN 14509:2013 — The standard for sandwich panels
The European standard by which self-supporting panels with metal facings are made, tested and declared — from the strength and shear of the core, through load capacity, to reaction to fire. A panel that has not been tested to it may not carry the CE marking.
- Full designation
- BAS EN 14509:2014 (EN 14509:2013)
- Assessment system

- Reaction to fire tested by
- FIRES s.r.o., Slovakia
CE — The marking of conformity
CE is not a quality mark but a manufacturer’s declaration — given under Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 — that the product has exactly the properties stated for it, measured to a harmonised standard. That is why a Declaration of Performance with figures comes with the delivery, not an assurance.
- Basis
- Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 (CPR)
- Panels to
- EN 14509 — system 3
- Sheets to
- EN 1090 — system 2+, body 0090
A Declaration of Performance with every delivery
Behind the CE marking stands one sheet of paper per product. It says which standard the product was assessed to, who checked it and — most important — what values the manufacturer declares. Here are two real ones, from our own production.

Independent certification and surveillance
Certificates are issued by accredited bodies, and compliance is checked through regular surveillance audits.
TÜV Thüringen e.V. (TIC), Jena
Certifies the management system to all three ISO standards and returns for regular surveillance audits. Accredited by the German accreditation body DAkkS.
FIRES s.r.o., Slovakia
The notified body that tested the reaction of the panels to fire — the part without which the declared fire classes would have no backing.
Notified body 0090
For profiled sheets to EN 1090, factory production control is confirmed by TÜV Thüringen under number 0090, certificate 090.CPR-1090-1.0011.TÜVTH.2022-01.
